Miley Cyrus’ mom Tish has filed for divorce from husband Billy Ray Cyrus, after almost 30 years.
They share five children together including singer and actress Miley and her sister Noah.
Tish Files For Divorce After 30 Years Together
Court documents acquired by TMZ state that Tish, 54, filed for a separation from the musician Billy, 60, in Tennessee last week.
According to court records, Tish filed docs in Tennessee last week. Their youngest child, Noah, is 22, so there will be no custody case involved. In the obtained divorce papers, Tish says the couple hasn't lived together for more than 2 years ... and lists "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. She's asking for an equal distribution of all marital assets.
This is not the first time they have considered divorcing each other. Billy Ray filed for divorce in 2010, but changed his mind soon after. In 2013, she filed for divorce, but she backed down from the idea within months.
Tish and Billy Ray married in 1993 in their living room in Franklin, Tennessee. Miley followed in their footsteps, marrying actor Liam Hemsworth in the same spot in 2018. Cyrus and Hemsworth finalized their divorce in January 2020.
Couple Not Seen Together Since 2020
Fans noticed Billy wasn't around the Cyrus family for the holidays. He did not appear in any photos and videos posted by Miley, leading some people to wonder if there was a fracture in their family. The last time we saw Tish and Billy together publicly was in 2020.
Together Tish and Billy have five kids: Miley, 29, Noah, 22, Trace, 33, Braison, 27, and Brandi, 34.
Tish is Billy Ray's second wife. From 1986 until 1991 he was wed to Cindy Smith. He also has a 30-year-old son, Christopher, with ex Kristin Luckey.
"I do think that marriage is hard work," Tish, birth name Leticia Jean Finley has said in the past.
"And I think a lot of people, when you go through struggles and difficult times, that people throw in the towel a little too easy."
"And I think that any relationship — whether it's marriage or family, it doesn't matter — it's you truly do have to take care of it and nurture and really work hard at relationships. And that's not always easy, especially in the business that we're in. So I think it's a lot just dedication and communication, which I'm not very good at."
Bill Ray said in 2013, after a past split from Tish said: "We both woke up and realized we love each other and decided we want to stay together. We both went into couples therapy something we haven't done in 22 years of being together, and it's brought us closer together and really opened up our communication in amazing ways."
